PSALM 122, PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM, 15.05.122

Continuing in the previous days’ focus, READ, STUDY, MEDITATE on PSALM 122. Apply the same steps, dive into the Psalm, and proceed to PRAYER.

“Psalm 122 was composed by King David before the first Temple was built. Solomon, David’s son, built the Temple after David’s death. “The house of the Lᴏʀᴅ” (v.1) refers to the early Tabernacle, which stood for God’s public honor, purpose, and plan for all people” (https://israelmyglory.org/article/psalm-122-our-joy-and-peace/).

PSALM 122:1 I was glad when they said to me, “The house of Adonai! Let’s go!”

“What David saw was Jerusalem during the Messianic Kingdom. The ancient rabbis viewed the time as “the future days of the Messiah,” (https://israelmyglory.org/article/psalm-122-our-joy-and-peace/), as the prophet Isaiah prophesied: “In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house will be the highest of all—the most important place on earth. It will be raised above the other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there to worship. People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob’s God. There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the Lord’s teaching will go out from Zion; his word will go out from Jerusalem” (Isa.2:1–3).

PSALM 122

I was glad when they said to me,

“The house of Adonai! Let’s go!”

Our feet were already standing

at your gates, Yerushalayim.

Yerushalayim, built as a city

fostering friendship and unity.

The tribes have gone up there, the tribes of Adonai,

as a witness to Isra’el,

to give thanks to the name of Adonai.

For there the thrones of justice were set up,

the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for shalom in Yerushalayim;

may those who love you prosper.

May shalom be within your ramparts,

prosperity in your palaces.

For the sake of my family and friends, I say,

Shalom be within you!”

For the sake of the house of Adonai our God,

I will seek your well-being.

“God chose Jerusalem to be the geographical location from which he would redeem the world; it is the location of the death and resurrection of the Messiah. That event happened in a specific time and a specific place, but the results flow into eternity. It is also the place he is coming back to! So Jerusalem is God’s chosen city in real time and space, but the significance and effect is eternal” (https://www.oneforisrael.org/bible-based-teaching-from-israel/bible-teachings/a-deeper-look-at-psalm-122-praying-for-the-peace-of-jerusalem/).

This Messianic Psalm prophesies into the Millennial Kingdom. Keep in mind that praying for the SHALOM of JERUSALEM means praying for Messiah’s return; and praying for Messiah’s return means the realization of the GREAT TRIBULATION which must essentially occur prior to that time, as prophesied. Also, as prophesied, there are only wars, pestilences, and more trials until that time; there will be no lasting SHALOM of any  form until Messiah comes back to rule and reign. So let us pray for the SHALOM of JERUSALEM with open eyes, ears, and minds.
