HEBREWS 13:5,6

HEBREWS 13: 5 “ . . .  be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

THE REFERENCE TO BEING CONTENT IS BASED ON THE PREVIOUS REMINDER OF THOSE WHO ARE UNDERGOING CONSIDERABLE ADVERSITY, AND HOW THAT WE MUST BE CONTENT WITH WHATEVER OUR STATE IS.

THE AUTHOR OF HEBREWS IS QUOTING FROM PSALM 118:6 WHEN HE TELLS THEM THAT THE LORD IS THEIR HELPER AND THEY NEED NOT FEAR.

HOW OFTEN WE NEED TO BE REMINDED OF THIS OURSELVES. WE ALL WALK THROUGH SEASONS OF ADVERSITY. THE LORD IS WITH US, EVEN WHEN IT MAY NOT APPEAR AS THOUGH HE WERE. WE NEED NOT FEAR, FOR THERE IS NOTHING THAT ANY CREATED BEING CAN DO TO DESTROY OUR SOUL OR OUR SPIRIT. WHAT WE HAVE WITH OUR LORD IS ETERNAL.
