PRAYER GUIDE: “HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!” 14.02.20
Father, I do so THANK YOU for Your unfailing, unwavering love – a love that never gives up on me/us, for You “have loved us with an everlasting love, and drawn us to You with lovingkindness” (Jer.31:2). Thank-You for loving me/us so much that You sent Your only Son to die a most horrid death on the Cross to atone for our sinful human nature/all our sins (John 3:16).
Thank-You, Father, for Your heart of love that: “desires all men to be saved and come into the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim.2:4), and that You cared so much that You even “sent Your one and only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. This is love—not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atonement for our sins” (1 John 4:8-10). Thank-You, Jesus/Yeshua, that YOU were willing to come to earth and pay the penalty for our sinful nature, making full atonement for our sins, redeeming us by Your suffering and dying for us, undeserving as we are.
Father, forgive me for my failures to love YOU as I aught; for my failures in loving others as I aught. Forgive me for all selfish, self-serving love, for hard-heartedness often towards others, and failing to love with that selfless, sacrificial love which Jesus/Yeshua demonstrated for all of us, for He didn’t just give a little; He gave ALL of HIMSELF; ALL of HIS LIFE.
Forgive me for withholding from You and not giving the all that You ask for because of wanting to hang onto my own desires, thoughts, ideas, fleshly lusts, idols, etc.
Forgive me for assuming I have “rights” while simultaneously calling You “Lord,” for if Your are my Lord, You hold the deck; & I belong to YOU, not to my self; I relinquished my assumed “rights” when I called You my “Lord.” Forgive me for hanging onto what is not mine.
Forgive me for those times I have backslidden and/or have been lukewarm, when I have “forsaken You as my first love” (Rev.2:4). Make me, now, to come to that place of passion, delighting in You, able to give my heart, my self, my mind, my will, my desires, emotions, my life plans/goals – SURRENDERING ALL to YOU,
*(the list could go on endlessly here; I encourage individuals to make your own list of things, as the Holy Spirit convicts you. Confess/repent/nail to the Cross.)
Father, make me to be selfless, giving to You, and to others, as You so appoint me to do. Put Your Father’s Heart of love into my heart, just as “the love with which You loved Your Son . . .” (John 17:23-26) loved, and loves us now. Put YOUR love into my heart that I may love as You do; that I would truly love You, My Lord, “with all my heart, all my soul, and all my mind . . . . .” willing to give it all up, to sacrifice all for YOU. Put YOUR love into my heart that I would be able to “love my neighbour as myself,” (Matt.22:37-40), for “if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. . . . ..” (1 John 4:11,12,16), and perfect Your love in me, now, for “You are LOVE; and if I abide in You, and Your love abides in me,” then, by the power of Your Holy Spirit, enable me to give out that same love to others that You’ve given to me. Enable me to emanate with YOUR LOVE, that others would be drawn into Your Kingdom, that others would want that PEACE (which I have from YOU) that emanates from me.
As Jesus/Yeshua said, “The entire Torah and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matt.22:37-40). If I could actually fulfill these two commandments I would really be perfect in Your Love, perfect, as Jesus/Yeshua; and although that will probably never happen in my earthly lifetime, I want to come as close to that state as is possible while still in this sorry human state. In Jesus/Yeshua’s Name, I pray these things. Thank-You, Heavenly Father. Amen.
