KEEPING THE DOORS CLOSED, 28.02.20
Once an understanding of closing the doors against the Enemy is developed, the most important, and the most challenging undertaking is that of maintenance – i.e., keeping those doors closed to the Enemy. And it is not as easy as some would think. The Enemy will come right back in if you open the door even a crack. In fact, keeping the doors shut can be the most difficult component of this process; it requires determination, perseverance, tenacity, and unrelenting consistency to maintain this new-found freedom.
Cultivating an intimate walk with the Father/Son/Holy Spirit is foundational to keeping the doors closed against the Enemy of the soul. “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Ps.91:1). It is this very exclusive protection which keeps the Enemy out. When you dwell/live/walk in that secret place of intimacy & daily surrender His protective shadow covers you, and “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge” (Ps.91:4). Without dwelling in this secret place consistently, doors will be re-opened to the Enemy.
Hand-in-hand with the secret place referred to in Psalm 91, is that place of “abiding in Him” (John 15:4) referred to by none other than Jesus/Yeshua Himself. “If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you” (John 15:7). Notice the Master said “IF.” This promise is conditional; it applies only to those who are willing to walk that tight walk of true intimacy and dependency daily, “for apart from Me, you can do nothing,” Yeshua says (John 15:5). It is that posture of dependency, clinging to Him who is the vine (“I am the vine; you are the branches . . .” John 15:5) that holds the key to keeping the doors closed against the Enemy. This walk is daily, 24/7, not bopping in-and-out as one pleases. By the way, bopping in-and-out of the “SECRETPLACE” – the place of “ABIDING IN” – will create holes in your armour, an opening the Enemy forces are just watching and waiting for. “Bopping-out” even momentarily will open a door.
Walking in the Spirit, which requires keeping your focus on Yeshua, maintaining that posture of surrender, and being continually filled/refilled with the Holy Spirit (Eph.5:18), is a critical requirement for the doors to remain closed. As Paul explains, “if” you “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Gal.5:16). One must actually do what you say you want to do, not just give lip service to it: “But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment (James 5:12). We must be doers not just hearers: “be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22) .
Paul warns that “idolatry, witchcraft, hostility, strife, jealousy, rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these,” (Gal.5:20,21) are the very activities that must be relinquished in order to “inherit God’s kingdom” (Gal.5:21). If that is the case, it would necessarily mean that these open the door to the demonic. “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another” (Gal.5:25,26).
One must relinquish/put to death all previous thought patterns as well as physical habits, desires, and activities that do not honour God. Needless to say, anything that indicates idolatry, pride, lust, perversion, sexual sin, hatefulness, bitterness will need to be put to death. These will be part of the thought-life, desires, imaginations, etc. and will show up to the Enemy in body language/non-verbals; rendering blatantly sinful and observably sinful behaviour unnecessary for doors to be opened.
THE FOLLOWING PASSAGES ADDRESS KEY AREAS THAT MUST BE ATTENDED TO IN ORDER TO KEEP THE DOORS CLOSED:
All Manner of Sexual/Sensual Lust/Perversion:
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
13 Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
NOTE: VALID REASONS FOR THE UNACCEPTABILITY OF SEXUAL SIN ARE PROVIDED IN THE LAST FEW PASSAGES.
IDOLATRY: NOTICE HOW SEXUAL IMMORALITY OF EVERY FORM IS ALIGNED WITH IDOLATRY. THEY ARE INSEPARABLE:
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites (1 Cor.6:9).
15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie (Rev.22:15)
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal.5:19-20).
Theft, Lying and Deceitfulness:
“lay aside lying and “each one of you speak truth with his neighbour” (Eph.4:25). “nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Cor.6:10).“The one who steals must steal no longer” (1 Cor.6:10; Eph.4:28).
Anger, Rage, Bitterness, unforgiveness:
“Be angry, yet do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger” (Eph.4:26).
“Get rid of all bitterness and rage and anger and quarreling and slander, along with all malice” (Eph.4:31).
Strife, Dissention, Conflict, Hatefulness, etc.
“envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like” (Gal.5:21)
All these things “give the devil a foothold” (Eph.5:27), which means open doors.
We must work towards killing off the flesh, and bringing our thoughts captive unto the obedience of Christ (2 Cor.10:5). Living a life of daily surrender (Paul says of himself, in 1 Cor.15:31, “I die daily”) is the key to keeping the doors closed against the Enemy.
Maintaining a love of God’s Word must include daily communion, prayer, and Scripture Studies. This is essential to keeping the doors closed. Just as Paul says, “let the one who thinks that he stands watch out that he doesn’t fall” (1 Cor.10:12). We must be continually washed by the Word (Eph.5:26).
Derek Prince, in his teaching, “Take Heed That You Are Not Deceived,” says, “the guardrail is the Scriptures . . . stay inside the guardrail,” emphasizing that we must walk in God’s Word, in humility and a fear of the Lord. Peter Horrobin, also in his teaching, “5 Reasons Why You Cannot Live Without the Fear of God,” affirms this.
Horrobin’s “Advice to the Delivered,” (chapter 9 of Healing Through Deliverance, 2 , 1995, p.258) instructs: “Wear the armour of God at all times . . . .,” specifying that: “If during the day there have been moments of failure, confess these immediately, ask God for forgiveness and repair the armour ready for the next encounter,” and goes on to warn about being ready for the counter-attacks of the Enemy, for “Satan will try to win back some of that ground as soon as possible . . . Watch out for temptation especially in the areas where sin has had to be radically dealt with . . . Be aware that the habit needs to be dealt with as well.” Horrobin, the founder of Ellel Ministries, specializing in spiritual warfare/deliverance, emphasizes the need to exercise strict adherence to God’s Word in our walk. It is most frequently in this area of readiness for Satan’s counterattacks, that individuals become lax. Thinking that they have conquered all, and basking in new-found freedom, people become careless, thereby allowing doors to re-open. Keep in mind that the Enemy of your soul knows your past, so he knows where you’ve been, what your weaknesses are; that is exactly why it requires the utmost determination and unrelenting vigilance to keep the doors closed.
Just as closeness, true intimacy, and trust keep a marriage bond tight, and in good condition, keeping intruders from getting in between the couple, likewise closeness/intimacy/trust with the Father/Son/Holy Spirit, keep the doors securely closed, so the Enemy of the soul cannot regain entry.
