JEREMIAH 20:11

JEREMIAH 20:11 But the Lord is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper. Their everlasting confusion will never be forgotten.

ON BOTH SIDES OF THIS STATEMENT, JEREMIAH CRIES OUT TO THE LORD ABOUT THE INJUSTICE OF THE PREDICAMENT GOD HAS PLACED HIM IN.

HERE HE IS, REQUIRED TO SPEAK GOD’S WORD, AND ALL IT DOES IS RAIN HATRED, VENOM, & PERSECUTION UPON HIM. HE HAS TRIED EVERYTHING TO ESCAPE THIS ROLE. HE HAD EVEN VOWED THAT HE WOULD NOT SPEAK THE WORDS GOD GAVE HIM TO SPEAK, BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO NOT DO SO. FOR WHEN THE WORDS OF THE LORD CAME TO HIM, THEY WERE SO LIKE “A BURNING FIRE IN HIS HEART” (V.9) THAT COULD NOT KEEP THEM INSIDE.

AS HE RELENTS, HE REALIZES THAT THE LORD, SO GREAT & MIGHTY IS THUS ABLE TO PROTECT HIM AGAINST HIS PERSECUTORS; THAT THEY WILL NOT SUCCEED IN THEIR EFFORTS TO DO AWAY WITH HIM, FOR GOD IS GREATER THAN HIS ENEMIES.

WE MUST REMEMBER THIS PRINCIPLE FOR IT STILL HOLDS TRUE TODAY & HAS APPLICATION FOR US AS WELL, FOR “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world,” (1 JOHN 4:4). IF GOD HAS COMMISSIONED US TO SPEAK AND WE SHOULD BE PERSECUTED, WE HAVE WITHIN US THE ONE WHO WILL FIGHT FOR US.
