STEPPING INTO THE NEW YEAR as a Follower of Jesus/Yeshua, 02.01.20

So how can we start the New Year off right?

How can we step into the New Year 2020 as a believer/disciple/follower of Jesus/Yeshua?

So where do we begin? How do we proceed?

We can begin with the primary foundation upon which the concept of “following Jesus/Yeshua” rests. He identified Himself as being “the” way, not simply a choice amongst other options – i.e., not just any “Way,” but “The” Way.  When Jesus/Yeshua said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life! No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6), it was a statement of His divinity; it was a definitive and noteworthy declaration, not a mere comment, open for debate/discussion, or in need of proof. It was a definitive statement of Who He already was, not Who He was becoming. Notice, He said “I am” – not “I am learning to be,” or  I am becoming,” “the way, the truth, and the life.” He already was. Oh, yes, and He still IS! If you truly believe this, you should desire to walk in His footsteps.

Let us start with that premise, and proceed to go deeper.

Let us probe, meditate on, and study the following sets of passages:

MATTHEW 16:24-26

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.

25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

5 There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.

6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.

JOHN 13:14-17:

14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.

15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

16 I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message.

17 Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

JOHN 10:

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

12 A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock.

13 The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me,

15 just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep.

16 I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.

I PETER 1:6,7

6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.

7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honour on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

1 PETER 4:12,13

12 Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.

13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering
