GENESIS 26:5

GENESIS 26:5
“I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.”

THIS STATEMENT FORMULATES A MOST IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE THROUGHOUT SCRIPTURE, AND APPLIES TO OUR OWN LIVES, AS IT GOVERNS ALL OUTCOMES OF DECISIONS/CHOICES MADE THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES.

THE PREAMBLE TO THIS IS THAT YAHWEH IS PASSING ON TO ISAAC THE COVENANT MADE WITH HIS FATHER ABRAHAM. WHAT IS SO CRITICAL TO REALIZE IS THAT, NOT ONLY IS ISAAC REQUIRED TO BE OBEDIENT AND FOLLOW ALL YAHWEH’S requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions, FROM HERE ON, BUT THAT WERE IT NOT FOR ABRAHAM’S OBEDIENCE BEFORE ISAAC’S TIME, THIS WOULD NOT LIKELY HAVE BEEN ON THE TABLE FOR ISAAC. NOTICE THAT YAHWEH DID NOT SAY THAT THE DEAL HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH ISAAC’S GOOD BEHAVIOUR UP TO THAT POINT; IT WAS ALL HINGED TO WHAT HIS FATHER HAD DONE. IT WAS “because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions,” CLEAR AND SIMPLE.

SUB-PRINCIPLE HERE: GOD WORKS GENERATIONALLY; AND THAT APPLIES TO CURSES AS WELL AS BLESSINGS (however, here we are dealing only with blessings).

MANY CIRCUMSTANCES, BEHAVIOURS, EVENTS, AND RELATIONSHIP DYNAMICS ARE BY-PRODUCTS OF THAT WHICH WENT BEFORE. GENERATIONAL PATTERNS ARE AT THE ROOT OF MUCH THAT IS VERY OFTEN NOT UNDERSTOOD IN THE INDIVIDUAL’S LIFE, WHETHER FOR THE GOOD OR FOR THE BAD.
