Father, we are so grateful that Your Son, Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha-Machiach, the baby born in a manger in Bethlehem is much more than just a babe in a manger, and was/is no ordinary man. We who know Him are so privileged to be part of the family of God; to know that the Son is the Saviour of the world, the Son of God, the One Who came to set humanity free from its depraved, sinful state. We are so grateful, too, that our Messiah, fully a man, yet fully divine, is therefore able to identify with our human condition.

We are so grateful, Father, that You sent Your Son to us. We are so grateful, for Mary/Miriam, Your faithful servant, and for Joseph, each of whom served such important roles in rearing Your precious Son. We are so grateful for Jesus/Yeshua, and Your willingness to come down to earth, to condescend to being a mere human, required to experience human emotions, human life, which would involve such terrible persecution, ending in Your death on the Cross. We are so grateful. Let us therefore fill our hearts with Your Love – a love which will call forth in each of us a true heart’s desire to transmit to others what You have given to us.

That You were willing to do this for humanity is so much more important than whether or not we celebrate Your birth at the exact right time. If it were of crucial importance to You, let us trust that it would have been given to us to know, even required as an annual celebration during the time of the original disciples and followers of Jesus/Yeshua.

Forgive us, therefore, for getting caught up in religiosity, legalism, self-righteous, judgmental fault-finding, and divisive attitudes. We choose to put that stenchy flesh to death on the Cross right now. Forgive us for getting caught up in debates on the time of the Son’s birth. Forgive us for becoming involved in conflictual relationships with fellow believers over this issue. Forgive us for creating obstacles to the unity of the Body of Yeshua. Forgive us for allowing, creating, and promoting strife and division over non-essential issues. Forgive us for so often/in so many ways, at this time of year, reverencing Your infancy, rather than focussing on what was attained through Your birth/coming to earth. Make us to focus on the purpose of Your coming, and the fact that You came.

Make us to focus on Who You are, Lord Jesus/Yeshua and what You came to do. Remind Your people that we are to do what the Son did, so at that Great Day of the Lord, each of us may hear the Father say “well done, good and faithful servant” (Matt.25:21). May we therefore use this time of year as a special opportunity to tell others about You, Jesus/Yeshua, and why You came. Make us to use this opportunity to teach others that You “are the way, the truth and the life; that no one comes to the Father except through You”(John 14:6).

May we help others to use their celebration of Christmas to embrace Your Divinity, and to realize that You came to bring salvation to them, also. Enable us to teach them, to share Your Word, that : “You are in the Father, and that the Father is in You” (John 14:9-11), and how this can transform their lives as it has our own.

Let us transmit to others – each other and unbelievers –  the love You brought to/for us. Let us transmit that unconditional love, and fulfill Your commandment: “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so also you must love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34,35). In Your Holy Name, Jesus/Yeshua. Amen.
