PROPHETIC TIMES, 05.11.19

“The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and ruling kohanim and Torah scholars, and be killed, and on the third day be raised” (Lk.9:22). No one actually understood or believed what He said when Yeshua prophesied His death and resurrection, but it is one of the most significant promises ever given throughout the Scriptures. After the ascension of Jesus Christ/Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, Peter preaches a sermon which opens eyes and brings conviction to many: ““Therefore let the whole house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him—this Yeshua whom you had crucified—both Lord and Messiah!” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the emissaries, “Fellow brethren, what shall we do?”” (Acts 2:36,37). They now realized that this was the long-awaited Messiah whom they had rejected, even crucified.

So much of what God has promised has already been realized – the most significant being the provision of a Messiah to save His sinful creation – but there is more to come. As we approach the end of days, some of the other very significant promises are near-at-hand to be fulfilled.

As we await the return of Messiah, soon hearts will be pierced again, “that at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow, in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and every tongue profess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord—to the glory of God the Father”(Phil.2:10,11). Just as prophesied by the prophet Isaiah, a Saviour was born in Bethlehem: “For to us a child is born  . . . . His Name will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, My Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace Of the increase of His government and shalom there will be no end— . . . from now until forevermore” (Isa.9:5,6).  Just as prophesied by Yeshua/Christ Himself, to His disciples: “I will come again and take you to Myself, so that where I am you may also be” (John 14:3), so also He will return for His people.

Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, Himself, prophesied: Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the land will mourn, and they will see ‘the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven’ with power and great glory. He will send out His angels with a great shofar, and they will gather together His chosen from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Matt. 24:30,31).  Being familiar with the Jewish Tanakh, His disciples recognized Who He was and that this had all been predicted by the prophets. Zechariah, in particular, had prophesied that: “They will look on me whom they have pierced [“They will look on the one they pierced”(John 19:37)] and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died”(Zech.12:10). Although here he is speaking of a future point when Christ returns, he is referring to the same Christ Jesus, Yeshua Messiah, who “comes with the clouds of heaven,” (Zech.12:10), “And everyone will see him—even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him”(Rev.1:7). “In that day there will be a great mourning in Jerusalem, mourning like Hadad-rimmon in the valley of Megiddo”(Zech.12:11). The time of His return will not be a happy time for everyone, for it will not go well for those who have not known and acknowledged Yeshua/Jesus as their Messiah.

Jesus/Yeshua prophesied that before His return there would be many bleak events, many of which are unfolding before our eyes today:  You will hear of wars and rumors of wars  . . . . .  For nation will rise up against nation . . . kingdom against kingdom. . . .  famines and earthquakes . . . . persecution . . kill you. You will be hated by all the nations because of My name. And then many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved” (Matt.24:6-13). Notice how these are being realized daily . . . . We are living in such prophetic times . …

Through His prophets, God has promised His people justice in the end. “I shall restore to you the years that the locust, the swarming locust, the canker-worm and the caterpillar have eaten—My great army that I sent among you. You will surely eat and be satisfied, and praise the Name of Adonai your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. Never again will My people be shamed. You will know that I am within Israel. Yes, I am Adonai your God—there is no other—Never again will My people be shamed” (Joel 2:25-27).  God will keep all of His promises.

On that day the Lord [“The great day of the Lord is near; it is near and hastens quickly”(Zeph.1:14)] will defend the people of Jerusalem; the weakest among them will be as mighty as King David! And the royal descendants will be like God, like the angel of the Lord who goes before them! For on that day I will begin to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem” (Zech.12:8-10).  So much anti-Semitism in the world today. .. .. . but God promises justice in the end . . .. . . Everything that’s going on right now, is lining up for this to happen.

God has covenanted with His people; and even in the midst of their wandering ways, unbelief, disobedience, rebellion, and idolatry, in that final Great Day of The Lord (Isa.2:12) there will be judgment for all, and also redemption for His people, because God is a God of covenant, a God of justice, He is faithful even when His people are not: “Behold, Adonai has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the Daughter of Zion, “Behold, your salvation comes! See, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.” Then they will call them The Holy People, The Redeemed of Adonai, and you will be called, Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken”(Isa.62:11,12). These are the promises Adonai maintains for Jerusalem, and all His people, Israel.  All those who have been grafted into the original olive tree (those unfamiliar with this concept will benefit from a visit to my webpage, http://www.vernasstudycorner.ca/one-new-man ) are automatically included. None of what He has promised will be overlooked: “My purpose will stand, I will accomplish all that I please” (Isa.46:10); “so My word will be that goes out from My mouth. It will not return to Me in vain, but will accomplish what I intend, and will succeed in what I sent it for” (Isa.55:11).

Just as their hearts were pierced after the time of Messiah’s first coming and departure, so will hearts be pierced even more, yet again, upon His return; there will be those who will not be ready; there will be those who still refuse to believe. But there will be a large contingent of Jewish believers who will be redeemed during the last days, in addition to all the early believers, both Jews and Gentiles, throughout the ages. Just as He came to save His people the first time, so He will return to save His people, and bring them unto Himself.

“I am coming soon—hold on to what you have  . . . . The one who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the Temple of My God, and he will never leave it. And on him I will write the name of My God and the name of the city of My God—the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God—and My own new Name. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Ruach is saying to Messiah’s communities” (Rev.3:11-13). Are you holding on to that which you have?  “In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives which lies to the east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west .  . . . . . Then Adonai my God will come and all the kedoshim with Him” (Zech.14:4,5).

Are you ready for this promise to become reality? So many read about His promises/prophecies, sing about them, but do not live in expectation of actually seeing them fulfilled. How many are ready – truly ready and waiting – living in anticipation, with joy and intrigue? Get ready, because God keeps His promises; and we are living in a time of prophetic fulfillment.
