ACTS 14:17

ACTS 14:17
Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

AT LYSTRA, BARNABUS AND PAUL WERE MINISTERING TO THE GREEKS AND OTHER PAGAN PEOPLES, AND WERE BEING VIEWED AS “GODS.”

THE PEOPLE WANTED TO MAKE SACRIFICES TO THEM. SO PAUL AND BARNABUS WERE EXPLAINING THAT THEY NO LONGER NEEDED TO SACRIFICE TO THEIR “GODS” BUT SIMPLY TO UNDERSTAND THE ONE TRUE GOD, WHO IN TIMES PAST ALLOWED THE PAGANS TO PURSUE THEIR OWN PATH/BELIEFS BUT HE HAD NOW PROVIDED A CLEAR PATH FOR ALL TO FOLLOW AND THEY NO LONGER NEEDED TO SACRIFICE TO FALSE GODS (ZEUS, HERMES, ETC.), AND IDOLS. SUCH PRACTICES SHOULD BE ABANDONED, AND REPLACED WITH HONOURING THE ONE TRUE GOD, THE SAME GOD WHO HAD CREATED AND PROVIDED THE TREES, HERBS, ALL PLANTS, ETC.  GOD HAS MADE PROVISION FOR RAIN, FOOD AND ALL NEEDS, DEMONSTRATING HIS GOODNESS TO ALL, AS WELL AS HIS POWER AND SOVEREIGNTY OVER ALL.

MAY WE NOT GET CARRIED AWAY WITH OURSELVES, TEMPTED TO TAKE CREDIT FOR ANYTHING WE MAY DO, BUT INSTEAD, JUST AS PAUL AND BARNABUS, LET US ALWAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIS GOODNESS AND GIVE ALL GLORY TO HIM. MAY WE REMEMBER, EACH DAY, THAT HE IS THAT SAME PROVIDER, SAVIOUR, LORD, KING AND MASTER. MAY WE SHARE HIS GOODNESS WITH THOSE WE MEET.
