SET APART, 29.11.19

“For you are a holy people to Adonai your God . . . . . . Adonai your God has chosen you to be His treasured people” (Deut.7:6). “Kedoshim (Hebrew for “holy ones) you shall be, for I am kadosh” (1 Pet.1:16); and “You did not choose Me, but I chose you. I selected you” (John 15:16). The same instructions are given, throughout the Scriptures; the message is consistent. Yahweh set apart a group of people for Himself, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chron.16:9).

Many denominations are teaching and preaching a false freedom. Instead of teaching the freedom from sin by the power of the Holy Spiritwithin God’s people, they are teaching the freedom from God’s ways, laws, a freedom to participate in the world’s definition of freedom – i.e., that anything goes. That is not congruent with God’s Word, either under the Old Covenant or the New. There is no such implication at any point. The following correlative Scriptures between Old and New Testaments are geared to substantiate this truth. There are those who are teaching a false Christ, a Jesus/Yeshua as rebel and revolutionary, as though Christ came to overthrow the laws of His Father. He came, in fact, not to overthrow, usurp, but rather to reinforce His Father’s commandments, and to demonstrate how to walk in/live them out, that through our love for Him we would be both motivated, and empowered by His Holy Spirit to do so.

There are not two different Gods, an OT God and a NT God. Yeshua/Jesus came to show us His Father. Any teaching counter to this is false doctrine, proven by the Words of Yeshua/Jesus Himself, who said: “the Son cannot do anything by Himself. He can do only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise” (John 5:19); and “For I did not speak on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and speak. . . .. . . Therefore what I say, I say just as the Father has told Me” (John 12:49,50). You are either going to choose to believe all of what is in Scripture, or you must choose to reject all of it. You cannot pick and choose.

Yahweh’s instructions, expectations do not change from Old Covenant to New, He simply has provided more resources through the New Covenant: we have the example of how to live out God’s laws, and the power of the Holy Spirit by which to do so. But nothing changed: “Watch yourselves, so your heart is not deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them” (Deut.11:16). “Do not be deceived—God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also shall reap” (Gal.6:7). We are still held responsible for our behaviour. But some will insist that, “We are free; God’s grace covers us; Christ did it all  . . . ,” while God’s Word indicates otherwise. Take the blinders off and study, hear, and believe His Word.

“Adonai your God you will follow and Him you will fear. His mitzvot you will keep, to His voice you will listen, Him you will serve and to Him you will cling . . . . . . .  you will purge the evil from your midst” (Deut.13:5,6), paralleled by “Don’t you know that a little hametz leavens the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old hametz, so you may be a new batch, just as you are unleavened—for Messiah, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us celebrate the feast not with old hametz, the hametz of malice and wickedness, but with unleavened bread—the matzah of sincerity and truth” (1 Cor.5:6-8).“Flee from sexual immorality! Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body—but the one committing sexual immorality sins against his own body” (1Cor.6:18). Despite New Testament’s parallel teachings, there are believers who claim freedom to do as they please: DECEPTION and DELUSION, the Enemy at work.

“You are not to intermarry with them—you are not to give your daughter to his son, or take his daughter for your son. For he will turn your son away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of Adonai will be kindled against you, and He will swiftly destroy you” (Deut.7:3,4).  “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? What harmony does Messiah have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement does God’s Temple have with idols?” (2 Cor.6:14-16). Yahweh has not changed His mind, nor His laws or expectations. Rationalizing and justifying sin/lawlessness constitutes DECEPTION/DELUSION.

“Like a shepherd, He tends His flock. He gathers the lambs in His arms, carries them in his bosom, and gently guides nursing ewes” (Isa.40:11).

“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Even the analogies are the same. God the Father, as Shepherd under the Old Covenant = Jesus, Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, the Good Shepherd, under the New Covenant.

The present deception that is infiltrating the community of believers is reflective of what Yeshua/Jesus meant when He said: “Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matt.7:15); “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick by one and look down on the other. You cannot serve God and money” (Matt.6:24). Wake up, sleeping church, “for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matt.24:44). “Wake up, and strengthen . . . .  . and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you” (Rev.3:2,3), for Adonai has called you to be a holy people unto Him.

Throughout Scripture, God’s message is consistent. It does not change from Old Covenant to New. God is not fickle, as humans are; He does not change; and we are told this in both the Old Testament and the New (Mal.3:6; Heb.13:8). God always wanted a group of people who would believe in Him, and follow Him. He started with one man and formed a little group of Hebrews, and it went from there. He is still looking for people who will follow Him – truly follow His Ways, His Laws, etc., by walking in the footsteps of Jesus/Yeshua, His only Son, Whom He sent to represent Himself, and to show us the Way.
