I TIMOTHY 5:18

I TIMOTHY 5:18
For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!”

For the Scripture says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.” And in another place, “Those who work deserve their pay!”

PAUL HERE IS TEACHING ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS AND ROLES WITHIN THE BODY OF THE CHURCH, CONGREGATION, & BELIEVERS.

AFTER INSTRUCTIONS OF HOW TO TREAT WIDOWS, OLDER PEOPLE, ETC. HE FOCUSES ON ELDERS WHO ARE PREACHERS AND/OR TEACHERS. HE IS MAKING A COMPARISON TO OXEN, IN THAT, JUST AS WHEN OXEN ARE WORKING HARD IN THE FIELD, THE FARMER DOES NOT STOP THEM FROM EATING, BUT RATHER REWARDS THEM WITH FOOD FROM THE FIELD, SO ALSO SHOULD ELDERS WHO TEACH/PREACH, OR DO OTHER WORK WITHIN/FOR THE CONGREGATION BE REWARDED, FOR “THOSE WHO WORK DESERVE THEIR PAY.”

RESPECTING AND REWARDING LEADERSHIP IS APPROPRIATE RESPONSE WITHIN THE BODY OF BELIEVERS.
