LUKE 14:11

LUKE 14:11                                                                                                                        “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

JESUS/YESHUA WAS USING A PARABLE TO TEACH AN IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE.

IT IS SO OFTEN THE CASE THAT WHEN PEOPLE WHO WANT TO CLIMB THE LADDER OF SOCIAL STATUS/ACCEPTANCE ATTEND ANY PUBLIC FUNCTION, THEY HABITUALLY SEAT THEMSELVES IN THE FRONT ROW, OR SITUATE THEMSELVES AROUND THE TABLE STRATEGICALLY TO BE NEAR THE LEADER, OR WHOEVER HAS HIGH PROFILE, STATUS, OR PRESTIGE.  THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT GOD WOULD HAVE US DO.

JESUS/YESHUA IS INSTRUCTING HIS DISCIPLES TO PUT THEMSELVES ON THE LOWEST RUNG OF THE SOCIAL LADDER.

WHAT DOES THIS TELL US?  IT TELLS US THAT GOD IS NOT THE LEAST BIT IMPRESSED BY SOCIAL STATUS, BY SOCIETY’S STANDARDS OF WHAT PLEASES HUMANS. NOR IS HE PLEASED WITH THOSE WHO HOLD THIS AS A PRIORITY AND ATTEMPT TO PUSH THEIR WAY TO THE TOP.

GOD VALUES A HUMBLE HEART. A SPIRIT OF HUMILITY IS WHAT PLEASES THE LORD, NOT A SPIRIT OF PRIDE WHICH SELF-EXALTATION REPRESENTS.

GOD CHOOSES TO ELEVATE THOSE WHO HUMBLE THEMSELVES BEFORE HIM, TO RAISE SOMEONE UP WHO CAN BE TRUSTED NOT TO ABUSE THEIR POSITION. WE ARE TO LEAVE IT FOR HIM TO DO, NOT TO PUSH OUR WAY TO THE TOP. STATUS IS NOT MEANT TO BE THE DESIRED GOAL OF A BELIEVER. THE GOAL OF A BELIEVER SHOULD BE TO SERVE, AND TO PLEASE THE LORD; AND TO REDEEM A LOST, DYING WORLD.
