MENTORING CORNER/STUDY GUIDE, I JOHN 3:13-24

Matthew 5:27,28
27 “You have heard that it was said [i]to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

    1. Why does John say (v.13,14) that you should not be disturbed by the unbelieving world’s hatred of you?
    2. In fact, if the world loves/accepts you, it means that _____________.
    3. Connect the dots between John’s declaration (v.15) & that of Jesus/Yeshua in Matt.5:27,28. What principle is revealed by this?
    4. What is the one most confirming action of God’s love for you? (v.16)
    5. What is the reciprocating behaviour expected of you in relation to that? (v.16)
    6. How can you demonstrate that you are living out that expectation, and not simply giving lip service to it? (v.17,18)
    7. How can you somehow fool God on this matter? If it’s not your heart’s desire how will it manifest in action/inaction?
    8. What is it that can give you full assurance of your right standing before God? (v.20,21)
    9. Everyone loves to quote those passages that tell us we will get whatever we ask for, but there are always ________________ for such blessings. Identify two such things mentioned in v. 22.
    10. Scriptures tend to emphasize those things of greatest significance by repeating them. See from v.23 the repetition of two very important requirements.
    11. Everything mentioned in v.24 hinges on the preceding emphasized requirements. What are those things which will be your identity IF those two requirements have been satisfied?
    12. How are you able to achieve intimacy, oneness, in your relationship with the Father, the Lord Jesus/Yeshua? 
    13. What/Who is it that will bear witness of such a closeness in your relationship with Father

      Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

      & Son?
    14. That little word “in” is used 3 times in a single verse (v.24). What is the significance of that? What does it mean to you?
