PSALM 37:7

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN THE PSALM THAT WE ARE ADVISED NOT TO CONCERN OURSELVES WITH WHAT EVILDOERS GET AWAY WITH. THIS EMPHASIS INFORMS US THAT IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE FOCUS ON WHAT GOD HAS DONE, IS DOING, & WILL YET DO FOR US, AND THAT HE WILL DEAL WITH EVIL IN HIS TIMING.

THERE ARE THINGS WHICH NOT ONLY SEEM UNFAIR, BUT ARE UNJUST AND IT IS EASY TO GET CAUGHT UP IN WANTING VENGEANCE, OR SIMPLY GRUMBLING ABOUT HOW UNFAIR IT IS. BUT WE WHO ARE GOD’S PEOPLE ARE CALLED TO A HIGHER STANDARD, AND THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE VENGEANCE, OR SELF-PITY, WHINING, & COMPLAINING.

WE ARE INSTRUCTED TO TRUST IN HIM, & WAIT PATIENTLY ON HIM, KNOWING THAT HE WILL, IN THE END, BRING JUSTICE TO ALL INJUSTICES; AND WE MUST LEAVE THAT TO HIM. OUR JOB IS TO SURRENDER IT ALL TO HIM; REST, WAIT, & TRUST IN HIM.

WHILE THAT MAY SEEM LIKE ASKING TOO MUCH, WE SIMULTANEOUSLY HAVE THE COMFORT OF KNOWING THAT GOD IS LOOKING AFTER US, THAT WE CAN DEPEND ON HIM, & THAT WE CAN LEAVE THESE LARGER ISSUES TO HIM. WE DON’T HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MOST COMPLICATED ASPECT OF BRINGING JUSTICE & JUDGMENT.
