14.08.19, AVOIDING DEHYDRATION

Whether we are involved in physical activity, or running the race like Paul, we must keep our bodies well hydrated.

Dehydration causes many problems physiologically, such as headaches, weakness, lethargy, loss of energy, and may result in a variety of serious health conditions if left unchecked.

In the same way, spiritual dehydration will result in such things as loss of faith, loss of spiritual authority, loss of energy, motivation, & failure to thrive/grow spiritually, holes in the armour which open doors to attacks whether physically, psychologically, emotionally, in the mind, or spiritually. Ultimate outcomes are lukewarm christianity, long-term backsliding, & gradual loss of all connection with the Lord.

We must not only take care of our bodies, keeping in shape, but also, as Paul taught, “discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should,” (1 Cor.9:27) to “run with purpose in every step,” (1 Cor.9:26) so that we can win our eternal prize (1 Cor.9:25). We must follow Paul’s example and be zealous, desiring to complete the race, “running with purpose in every step, not just pretending, & shadowboxing” (1 Cor.9:26).

In our spiritual journey, we need to be focused; and we must be surrendered in all areas of our lives. If we are going to run the race in order to “press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed” (Phil.3:12) us, we must forget the past & look forward to our ultimate eternal goal (Phil.3:13), and “press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us” (Phil.3:14).

Running this race requires adequate hydration. That hydration comes from drinking from the Living Waters, the Living Water Jesus/Yeshua talked about to the woman at the well (John 4:10,13-15). We maintain hydration by maintaining a steady diet of God’s Word, for we are “washed by the cleansing of God’s word,” (Eph.5:26), refreshed, purified, so we can continue to walk in the Spirit.

We receive hydration for our hearts, souls, & spirits when we are continually refilled with His Holy Spirit. We need continual refills. Jesus/Yeshua said, “On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!  Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” 39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit.” And Paul reminded us to not “be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,” (Eph.5:18), because this is what we need in order to run the race, and win.  Avoid spiritual dehydration by drinking a daily portion from the LIVING WATERS.

Only those who are pressing through will attain that spiritual maturity which can maintain the level of progress attained. Only those who regularly, and continually, come to the waters and drink of the Living Water (Isa.55:1) are going to finish the race successfully, and be able to say, like Paul, ”I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing” (2 Tim.4:7,8).

SCRIPTURES QUOTED IN ABOVE:

I CORINTHIANS 9:25-27

25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.

26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.

27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Phil. 3:12-16

12 press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.

13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,

14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.

16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

John 4:10,13-15

10 Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”

13 Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again.

14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

15 “Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.”

John 7:37-39

37 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!

38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”

39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him.

Ephesians 5:18

18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit

26 washed by the cleansing of God’s word

Isaiah 55:1

“Is anyone thirsty?

    Come and drink—

even if you have no money!

Come, take your choice of wine or milk—

    it’s all free!

2 Timothy 4:7,8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.

8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.
