NUMBERS 27:16,17

NUMBERS 27:16,17
16 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17 who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”

GOD REMINDED MOSES ABOUT HIS REBELLIOUS ATTITUDE AT THE WATERS OF MERIBAH IN THE WILDERNESS OF ZIN. HE MADE IT VERY CLEAR TO MOSES THAT ALTHOUGH HE WOULD BE GIVEN A GLIMPSE OF THE “PROMISED LAND,”  HE WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTAKE OF IT.

MOSES ASKED THE LORD TO FIND A REPLACEMENT FOR HIM TO ENSURE THE PEOPLE WOULD NOT BE LEFT WITHOUT A LEADER.

GOD SELECTED JOSHUA TO REPLACE MOSES, AND INSTRUCTED  MOSES TO HAVE ELEAZAR, THE PRIEST, OFFICIALLY PRESENT HIM AS THE NEW LEADER OVER THE PEOPLE. MOSES WAS TO PASS ON HIS MANTLE OF AUTHORITY BY LAYING HIS HANDS ON JOSHUA.

THIS SETS FORTH A PRINCIPLE FOR OUR OWN GROUPS AND CONGREGATIONS. WE DO OFTEN SEE THIS PLAYED OUT WHEN THERE ARE LEADERSHIP CHANGES. IT IS COMMON PRACTICE TO HAVE THE PRESENT LEADER AND/OR ELDERS/PRAYER TEAM, ETC., PRAY, ANOINT, &/OR MAKE OFFICIAL THAT THE POSITION WILL BE FILLED BY A NEW LEADER, WHETHER IT IS BECAUSE SOMEONE IS BEING MOVED ON FOR A NEW POSITION, RETIRING, OR WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE. THESE ARE GODLY PRINCIPLES FOR US TO FOLLOW.
