MATTHEW 4:4

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

PUTTING THIS STATEMENT IN CONTEXT, IT IS BEING GIVEN FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A VERY HUNGRY MAN, IN A SITUATION OF VERY ACUTE TEMPTATION.

SO WHEN JESUS/YESHUA IS BEING TEMPTED IN THE WILDERNESS TO TURN THE ROCKS INTO BREAD, WHEN HE IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY HUNGRY MAN, ALL-HUMAN, AND ALL-GOD, WITH THE ABILITY TO TURN THOSE ROCKS INTO BREAD, HE IS MAKING MORE THAN A MUTE POINT. HE IS EMPHASIZING THAT THERE IS SOMETHING FAR MORE IMPORTANT TO HIM THAT BREAD THAT NOURISHES THE BODY.

IF JESUS/YESHUA, THE SON OF GOD, CONSIDERS GOD’S WORD TO BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SUSTAINING POWER OF “BREAD,” HOW MUCH MORE IMPORTANT IT MUST BE FOR US!

GOD’S WORD HAS A SUSTAINING POWER THAT TAKES US BEYOND THAT OF THE PHYSICAL. OUR SOULS REQUIRE THE NOURISHMENT OF GOD’S TRUTH, REVELATIONS, CONVICTIONS, PROMISES, & PRINCIPLES FOR DAILY LIFE. WITHOUT IT, ALTHOUGH WE MAY BE ALIVE PHYSICALLY, OUR SOULS WILL SUFFER FROM MALNOURISHMENT. ONLY BY A STEADY DIET OF GOD’S WORD CAN A STRONG FAITH, AND A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FATHER BE MAINTAINED.
