PSALM 119:33-40, 30.07.19
Let’s REVIEW some of the steps in “GOING DEEPER,” (https://www.vernasstudycorner.ca/2019/06/going-deeper-13-06-19/) & APPLY them to the following set of passages below:
WHAT DOES “GOING DEEPER” INVOLVE?
- First read.
- Then study– yes, I said read . .. . then study. There is a difference. When you “read” the words are often just that – “words;” words that are rarely retained, and may have little or no meaning. When you “study” you first re-read. Then you go back & re-read again. You are going deeper, attempting to gain fuller understanding, make meaning, make connections.
- Now you are ready to MEDITATE on the words. YES, you will read them yet again. You will read them prayerfully, going deeper still, now, by yielding your mind/thoughts to the leading of the Holy Spirit, asking HIM to take you DEEPER, to open the eyes of your understanding (Eph. 1) & bring revelations, bring the words alive to you. This also necessitates your attentiveness: LISTEN for the voice of the SPIRIT. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you into the full meaning, to assist you to connect the dots from themes and principles to the application it has for your very own life, your walk in the Spirit.
It is therefore a most useful exercise to practice taking even one or two passages, probing deeper, meditating, praying into, and moving into that zone of integration, connecting dots, & applying the deeper revelations discovered.
NOW LET’S PRACTICE WITH THE FOLLOWING:
Review the above steps, and follow them, first just “reading,” then getting a bit more studious, re-reading, & re-reading again. Now you are ready to “pray into” them, meditating on the Words, & listening for the Father’s leading by the power of His Holy Spirit.
Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes,
And I shall keep it to the end.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law;
Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Make me walk in the path of Your commandments,
For I delight in it.
Incline my heart to Your testimonies,
And not to covetousness.
Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.
Establish Your word to Your servant,
Who is devoted to fearing You.
Turn away my reproach which I dread,
For Your judgments are good.
Behold, I long for Your precepts;
Revive me in Your righteousness.
