12.07.19 PERSONALIZING PASSAGES, SET 2

FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT HAVE DONE YESTERDAY’S STUDY, I PREFACE BY REPEATING THE INTRODUCTION FROM THAT FIRST SET ON “PERSONALIZING PASSAGES.”

Over many years of hosting, leading, and teaching Bible Study and Prayer Groups in my home, I was led to the task of assembling passages to form individualized prayers based on God’s Word. These would largely have been devised to meet a particular prayer need, or theme. In order to most effectively meet such a need it is useful, strategic, and effective to pool passages from a variety of Scriptural locations, rather than simply selecting one uniform block of text from a single location.

Enter into the process, as STUDY CORNER focuses in on praying Scripture in this way. We will first read/study/meditate on several passages, then we will go to PRAYER CORNER and see how they can be integrated to form a personally meaningful and complete prayer.

We will begin with a theme that is most basic and foundational to one’s prayer life as well as one’s walk with the Lord.

Transformation, sanctification, and all forms of spiritual growth require communication and relationship with the Father. We do this through prayer.

PART 2, 12.07.19
KEEPING GOD at the CENTRE:

Such growth will not occur without complete surrender which necessarily includes death of self, walking in the Spirit, so we will begin with prayers on this theme.

From the following list of passages, we will then go to PRAYER CORNER where you can pray through the integrated passages. Since they will often be paraphrased, re-formatted to fit personal word usage, we need not refer back to the specific passage or quote directly (all you need do is skip back to this page to review the quoted passages). When praying Scripture becomes a regular practice, one’s familiarity with The Word is enhanced, and it becomes easy to incorporate passages into prayer as though from automated default position. Let us begin with the following:

Philippians 2:5

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus

Proverbs 16:3

Commit your works to the Lord,

And your thoughts will be established.

2 Corinthians 10:5

5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ

Psalm 25:14,15

14

The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him,

And He will show them His covenant.

15

My eyes are ever toward the Lord,

For He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

Psalm 18:28

28 For You will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

Psalm 119:105,133

105

Your word is a lamp to my feet

And a light to my path.

133

Direct my steps by Your word,

And let no iniquity have dominion over me.

Psalm 5:12

12

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;

With favour You will surround him as with a shield.
