PSALM 119, GOING DEEPER, 18.06.19
How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.
With my lips I have declared
All the judgments of Your mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
I will meditate on Your precepts,
And contemplate Your ways.
I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.
- IDENTIFY the OVERRIDING THEME in the above set of Scripture.
- Connect the Dots between the following: (a) “cleansing your ways” & how you walk with the Lord; (b) how diligently you seek the Lord, & whether or not, & to what extent you “wander from His commandments” © the extent to which you have “hidden His word in your heart”, & “not sinned against Him.”
- Use the Scriptures, such as the following, to challenge the true status of your heart – i.e., are such statements just “platitudes/cliches” (please ref. https://www.vernasstudycorner.ca/2019/06/platitudes-cliches-04-06-19/ ), for you, or are they “real” – are they “from the heart”? NOW RETURN TO v.10 & 16, & MEDITATE on these: (a) V. 10: With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Is your whole heart involved in your seeking? Are you really urgent about not wanting to “wander” from His commandments? (b) V. 16: “I will delight myself in Your statutes.” Do you really DELIGHT yourself in His Ways/Laws/Statutes/Precepts (it’s not really important what term you use; it applies to all the above & whatever it is that comes from/rests in Him). Do you just say/sing these things? Have you ever said these things to Him voluntarily, on your own, initiating them from the heart?
IT IS ONLY BY DIGGING DEEPER THAT WE DISCOVER THE TRUE STATE OF OUR HEART. AVOIDANCE OF “GOING DEEPER” IS AN ANSWER IN ITSELF. IF WE ARE REALLY “ALL SOLD OUT” (ref. STUDY, “SOLD OUT” https://www.vernasstudycorner.ca/2018/11/sold-out-28-11-18/) we are NOT AVERSE to “GOING DEEPER;” in fact, we HUNGER to “GO DEEPER.”
CONTINUE TO USE THE GUIDELINES PRESENTED IN THIS, AND THE PREVIOUS TWO STUDIES, to PRACTICE “GOING DEEPER.”
PSALM 119 IS A GREAT PLACE TO CONTINUE, OR HAND-PICK WHATEVER PASSAGES YOU FEEL LED TO, APPLYING THESE “DIGGING DEEPER” TOOLS.
