JAMES 5:18

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

JAMES IS REFERRING TO ELIJAH, AND HOW THAT HIS PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED AT BOTH ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM: FIRST, WHEN HE PRAYED THAT IT WOULD NOT RAIN; AND 3 ½ YEARS LATER WHEN HE PRAYED FOR IT TO RAIN.

ELIJAH WAS NO DIFFERENT THAN THE REST OF US; HOWEVER, HE WALKED IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND WAS A MAN OF FAITH. JAMES IS DRAWING A PARALLEL HERE, POINTING OUT THAT IT IS NO DIFFERENT FOR ANY OF US WHO BELIEVE AND HAVE FAITH. IF WE ARE WALKING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS (JAMES 5:16 SAYS THE “PRAYERS OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN”)OUR PRAYERS WILL BE ANSWERED.

GOD ALWAYS ANSWERS OUR PRAYERS. KEEP IN MIND, THAT DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN: (a) THEY WILL BE ANSWERED IN THE WAY WE EXPECT, THINK, OR WOULD PREFER; (b) THE ANSWER WILL BE “YES,” FOR GOD CAN ANSWER WITH A RESOUNDING “NO” © IT WILL BE ANSWERED NOW – HIS ANSWER WILL COME AT HIS TIMING; HE MAY SAY “YES, BUT NOT NOW.”

JAMES IS UNDERSCORING THE FACT THAT WE SHOULD ALWAYS PRAY, BRINGING ALL THINGS TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER. GREAT ADVICE FOR US ALL TO FOLLOW.
