PART 2, “SELF-ESTEEM, GOD’S WAY,” 14.05.19

For some reason the surrender of one’s emotional wounds seems often the most difficult thing to totally give over/up to the Lord. Yet all one need do is turn that wounded soul over to His healing touch, and by His mighty power they can be healed, for “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” (Jer.32:27). Letting go of bruised egos, trusting the Lord with one’s broken heart, yielding one’s mind, will, and painful memories to allow the Blood of the Lamb to wash and cleanse away all scars, cuts, wounds, bruises, rips, and tears, will bring healing and peace to the troubled soul, and the broken heart, like nothing and no one else can do.

“He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds” (Ps.147:2,3). Although this is spoken to Israel, when we are believers in Yeshua/Jesus we are grafted into the Olive Tree/Israel, and the promises/principles apply also to those who believe. Heb.12:15 makes it clear that “any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.”  This passage provides all the validation needed for those psychological concepts defining the “wounded inner child,” indicating that bitterness/unforgiveness/hatefulness, and the like, will definitely trigger, provoke, and cause all manner of problems in the individual psyche; and, of course, this will infest whatever relationships that individual enters into, as well as causing them to view everything through that tainted filter. In what is known as The Lord’s Prayer, it is clear that unforgiveness will cause trouble: “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matt.6:14,16). You see, humans did not invent psychology; God already had it all figured out. It is we who need to get with His ways of dealing with these troublespots. God’s ways are so much more effective, “For Yours(His) is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen” (Matt.6:13).

“blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. . . . .  he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”  . . . .   So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road” (Mk.10:46,47,51,52). Now do you suppose Yeshua didn’t know what was wrong with him? Of course He did! Why did He bother asking him what he wanted? Wasn’t it obvious?

Jesus/Yeshua waits for us to reach out: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Matt.7:7,8). (And He is obviously not referring to carnal desires for things, etc.). These passages bear out the fact that we are expected to seek, ask, believe, and receive. Notice that it was immediately after Bartimaeus identified specifically what he wanted, that he received his healing; notice, too, that Jesus/Yeshua acknowledged Bartimaeus’ faith. And after the poor man cried out, then he received deliverance from his afflictions. “This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles” (Ps.34:6). (He saved him out of “troubles;” not running to his aide to fulfill a childish “wish list.”)

It’s all the same to Jesus/Yeshua, whether the wounds or afflictions are physical or emotional. Neither is more difficult than the other. Many soul wounds are caused by early childhood trauma, thus rooted in fear. All of life’s wounds affect the individual’s self-esteem and self-worth. God’s Word promises deliverance from such afflictions: “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears” (Ps.34:4). “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them” (Ps.34:7). God will assign angels to protect and to deliver. The only entity we need fear is God Almighty Himself. Why? Because He holds the power of life and death; He holds it in His Mighty Hands, whether He will bless or curse; we should have a healthy fear, holding Him in high esteem, awe, and reverence, for He says: ““I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion . . . . (He is not obligated to have mercy on any individual; but He does, and will have mercy on whomever He selects. It’s not like we have the right to make demands). Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens” (Rom.9:15,18). Seeking His healing touch brings deliverance from problems of low self-worth.

God wants to have relationship with humans. His desire is for us to desire likewise. He has our best interests at heart: “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him” (Ps.34:8,9). It is those who hold Him in awe, those who wait on Him, that He is most likely to bless, not those who make demands, have expectations   . . . .  “those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing” (Ps.34:10). These passages verify that: trusting in Him, fear of God Almighty, and seeking Him are prerequisites to receiving deliverance and healing. God looks after those who believe, follow, fear, trust, wait on, and surrender their pain to Him.

Why is it so difficult for people to give it all to Him? Distrust, insecurity, fear (of being let down, rejected, abandoned, etc.), self-reliance due to power/control issues that plague many individuals make it very difficult to surrender the most painful  parts of the wounded soul. There is such a fear of trusting anyone else with those intimate needs, and fears that even God cannot be trusted. In a previous STUDY, “Obstacles to Hearing From God,” ( ), I explained some of the contributing factors to this issue (it may be helpful to refer back). It is a major component contributing to low self-esteem/worth, since the individual wounded in a way that precipitates distrust, has such a strong need to maintain control, that it becomes a major obstacle, and forms a barrier to trusting God. All areas of holding back prevent emotional healing, which proliferates low self-esteem/worth, just as surely as they form blocks to hearing from God.

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Ps.34:15,18,19). Similarly, Yeshua/Jesus promised to provide healing/rest to wounded souls, inviting us to come to Him with all our troubles: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest  . . . will find rest for your souls. . .” (Matt.11:28-30).

Those who struggle with low self-esteem/self-worth/self-concept, who lack confidence, feel inadequate, for whatever reason, and from whatever root cause, need to take those specific root issues, the specific emotions, (whether fear, shame, rage, self-hate, guilt, or whatever the case may be), lay them at the foot of the Cross, place them in the nail-pierced hands, completely trust and surrender them to the Lord Jesus Christ/Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, God the Father, nailing them to the Cross and leaving them there for, “Surely He has borne our griefs, carried our sorrows  . . . wounded for our transgressions . . . bruised for our iniquities; by His stripes we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray. . . .  And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Isa.53:4-6). You see, He took it all on the Cross. He did. “It is finished” (John 19:30). It is not we who are finished; it is He Who finished what He came to do. Now we have to believe that, and  “take up our cross and follow Him” (Lk.9:23), and that means trusting Him, believing He did it, and therefore walking in faith and surrender which will enable/allow Him to do it IN US. Yes; HE is finished; we are only beginning. . . . . . We must surrender our wounds, each one as it manifests; give it all to Him, and receive healing, for “I am the Lord, your healer” (Ex.15:26). From Genesis to Revelation, Jesus/Yeshua, Yahweh/God the Father, are ONE, and  “are the same, yesterday, and today, and forever” (Heb.13:8). These same promises apply to each one who believes and receives; but in order to receive, one must give up control, let go of it, and hand it over to Him, and leave it with HIM, trusting that He will complete what needs to be done.
