VERNA’S DAILY DEVOTIONAL, FRIDAY MAY 17, 2019
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
PAUL IS INSTRUCTING HIS PEOPLE TO BEHAVE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DEGREE OF FAITH AND GIFTINGS ASCRIBED TO EACH ONE INDIVIDUALLY.
AFTER HAVING SPOKEN ABOUT TRANSFORMATION AND THE IMPORTANCE OF REPLACING ALL CONFORMITY TO THE WORLD’S STANDARDS WITH A FOCUS ON GODLY STANDARDS, AND SUBMITTING TO THAT TRANSFORMATION, HE IS ADVISING THEM TO PUT OTHERS BEFORE SELF. HE WANTS BELIEVERS IN CHRIST TO USE THEIR GIFTS, GRANTED BY GOD’S GRACE, WITHIN AND FOR THE BODY OF BELIEVERS, TO GOD’S GLORY.
EACH BELIEVER, AS PART OF THE “BODY” OPERATES AT A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF FAITH. EACH BELIEVER HAS BEEN GIVEN A “MEASURE” OF FAITH, IN ACCORDANCE OF WHICH GOD HAS GRANTED GIFTINGS THAT ARE TO BE IMPLEMENTED FOR THE FURTHERANCE OF THE GOSPEL/BODY OF CHRIST. WE ARE TO EMPLOY THOSE GIFTINGS ACCORDINGLY. NEITHER IS ANY BELIEVER TO HOLD THEMSELVES IN HIGHER ESTEEM THAN ANY OTHER.
