EPHESIANS 4:26,27

“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.”

PAUL IS ADDRESSING THE TOPIC OF THE “NEW MAN.” HE IS SPEAKING INTENTIONALLY, TO INFORM HIS PEOPLE THAT UPON SURRENDERING TO THE LORD, IT IS NO LONGER OKAY TO BEHAVE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAST CARNAL PATTERNS.

IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO BE ANGRY. WHAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IS TO HOLD ONTO THAT ANGER, HOLDING A GRUDGE, BEING UNFORGIVING. SO PAUL IS COUNSELLING THAT IT IS ESSENTIAL TO RECONCILE OUR ANGER AND NOT “GO TO BED” ANGRY, MEANING DON’T HOLD ONTO IT.

TEL AVIV SUNSET, 2011

IT IS ALSO EVIDENT THAT HOLDING ONTO THE ANGER OPENS A DOOR TO THE ENEMY. WE GIVE THE ENEMY A LEGAL SPACE IN OUR LIFE BY HANGING ONTO ANGER, RAGE, BITTERNESS, HATEFULNESS.
