2 CORINTHIANS 1:24

“Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand.”

PAUL WAS BRINGING THE CORINTHIANS UP TO DATE ON ALL THAT HAD GONE ON, AS HE’D LEFT THEM ON THEIR OWN FOR SOME TIME, IN CORINTH. AFTER SHARING MUCH OF WHAT HAD GONE ON, THREATS AGAINST PAUL AND HIS TEAM, ETC., AND SUMMARIZING THE THINGS HE HAD TAUGHT THEM, HE WENT ON TO CLARIFY THAT HE IS NOT ATTEMPTING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR WALK, BUT SIMPLY TO INFORM, SHARE, AND ENCOURAGE.

JUST AS PAUL WENT ON TO CLARIFY THAT HE DOES NOT CONTROL, AND IS NOT ACCOUNTABLE FOR HOW THEY KEEP THEIR FAITH, WE ALL MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR GROWTH, OUR WALK OF FAITH. HE IS NOT HOVERING OVER THEM TO SUPERVISE THEM; BUT RATHER TO ACT AS A FELLOW WORKER IN CHRIST, ENCOURAGING AND TEACHING, WHILE ALLOWING THEM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN WALK.

We are each responsible for our own walk.

WE ALL MUST BE MINDFUL OF THIS, FOR THERE IS OFTEN THE TEMPTATION TO TAKE CONTROL, AND DOMINATE THOSE WHOM ONE HAS TAUGHT, AND/OR MENTORED. EACH INDIVIDUAL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW THEY WALK OUT WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN TAUGHT. NO ONE ELSE CAN WALK IT FOR ANOTHER.

WE CAN TEACH AND MENTOR, BUT ULTIMATELY THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONE’S WALK AND DEGREE OF FAITH AND TRUST IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL. EACH ONE OF US WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR WHAT WE DID WITH WHAT WE KNEW. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BLAME OUR TEACHERS, MENTORS, OR PASTORS. WE WILL STAND ACCOUNTABLE BEFORE GOD, INDIVIDUALLY, ON THAT GREAT DAY OF THE LORD.
