PURGING THE OLD LEAVEN, 09.04.19
PURGING THE OLD LEAVEN, 09.04.19
So how does one get rid of the old leaven – the unwanted sin? Purge the old leaven by walking in the Word, by praying God’s Word, by living it out. Let us look a bit closer, in the following paragraphs, at how this can be done.
First and foremost, there is power in the Word of God: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb.4:12). There isn’t anything more powerful than God’s Word (after all, He spoke creation into being, didn’t He?); so when we use the Word/Sword He gave us, in prayer, there is a power released through those Words, because they are not just our words; they are His Words. So, regardless of the situation, our prayers will be most effective when we pray through Scriptures which apply to our specific situation. There is no human condition or circumstance for which God’s Word fails to have an answer.
Yeshua instructs His disciples to speak to the mountains: “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them” (Mk.11:23,24).This demonstrates that the Word, spoken in faith has limitless power, and by speaking it, we are demonstrating faith in God’s Word – i.e., we really expect what we pray, to happen. And in order to speak to the mountains, we must identify that which comprises our particular mountain.
Realize that the “mountains” represent whatever obstacles/blocks are in your way to walking in faith, obedience, love, and surrender – whatever is hindering from walking in freedom and victory, that is your mountain (yes, mountains are unique to each individual). Whether it is fear, insecurity, worthlessness, rage, unforgiveness, lust, sexual sin, greed, or whatever it is, because it can be almost anything, it all hinges on your own particular past wounds which have created weaknesses, individual circumstances, and doors that have been thereby opened to the enemy. So be specific; insert, for instance “fear” (as a mountain in your life), take authority over it, by God’s Word, and command it to “Go!” Yeshua instructed His disciples to walk in the authority He’d given them: “Behold, I have given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” (Lk.10:19). Command them to “Go!” in Jesus/Yeshua’s Name, for He said: “whatever you ask the Father in My name . . .” (John 16:23,24), because, we must remember, it is not in our own power; but by our identity in Christ Jesus/Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, and through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, that we can use His authority, His power.
Purge that leaven with fire: “Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: Because you speak this word, Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire . . .” (Jer.5:14), and “he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. Is not My word like a fire?” (Jer. 23:28,29). “For our God is a consuming fire”(Heb.12:29); “The sight of the glory of the Lord was like a consuming fire”(Ex.24:17); “For the Lord your God is a consuming fire”(Deut.4:24). Once we understand this principle, we can put the fire of God against whatever mountain, obstacle, or plans of the Enemy happen to be a threat. Be specific. Generic prayers are, for the most part, largely ineffective. Some will teach that all one needs do is apply the “blood of Jesus” to everything, and that’s all that needs doing; but that is not what we find in God’s Word. There are many techniques in prayer, through the application of God’s Word. The “blood of Yeshua” secures your salvation; but we are instructed to walk in the Spirit, the whole armour of God, and wield the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, when it comes to spiritual warfare; and it will likely require spiritual warfare to get rid of all the old leaven. (If curses are involved consider the workload multiplied).
Paul taught us to wield “the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Eph.6:17), against the Enemy, and declare God’s Word over and into any situation we encounter: “Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day (an “evil day” can be any day in which we, or our loved ones, are threatened in some way), and having done all, to stand” (Eph.6:11,13). Here we find total validation and confirmation for using God’s Word in prayer, as a weapon against the Devil. Use it!
Paul also taught his people about crucifying the flesh; and we can purge the old leaven by: (a) an act of will by which we determine to “continually count yourselves both dead to sin and alive to God in Messiah Yeshua . . . . not let sin rule in your mortal body . . . . do not keep yielding your body parts to sin as tools of wickedness; but yield yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your body parts as tools of righteousness to God” (Rom.6:11-13); (b) crucifying the flesh: “by the Ruach you put to death the deeds of the body” (Rom.8:13).
My friends, the Scriptures hold the key to all things that we need; you need to familiarize, eat, chew, digest, internalize all of God’s Word; and you need to apply it: “be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding yourselves” (James 1:22). It grieves the heart of the Father/Yeshua that people will agree with what they read, but then forget about it quickly, failing to walk in it. No words are effective until applied to the specific situation, and that necessarily entails walking in daily surrender. Most often, there will be a season involving some extended period of time, before there is a complete breakthrough, especially where there are extensive generational curses involved. It goes without saying, that any sinful lifestyle must be confessed, repented, and completely exterminated before there can be a lasting breakthrough of any kind.
Without purging the old leaven we will not be true overcomers, walking in freedom and victory; for “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even in the face of death” (Rev.12:11). Of course, without the shed blood of Messiah there can be no victory. That is the starting point, and must precede all else. After that, our testimony must be its own definition (i.e. what is it you are testifying to?), which necessitates giving God the glory every step of the way, testifying of what He has done for you to carry you through, as well as ultimately delivering you from all bondages. This necessarily including faith, obedience, trust, commitment, surrender, faithfulness, and walking/living it out. The process requires the willingness, not only to die to self, but to be willing to die, if it were that to which one were called, for the sake of the Kingdom. The degree to which you walk in daily surrender will be the degree to which you will purge the old leaven, resulting in freedom from bondage.
