2 TIMOTHY 1:6
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
IN THIS CHAPTER, PAUL IS COMMENDING HIS YOUNG DISCIPLE/SPIRITUAL SON, TIMOTHY FOR HIS FAITHFUL WALK IN SERVING THE LORD.
AS HE REMINDS HIM THAT THE ROOTS OF HIS FAITH GO BACK TO HIS CHILDHOOD, BEGINNING WITH HIS MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER, HE ENCOURAGES HIM, ALSO, BY LETTING HIM KNOW HE COVERS HIM IN PRAYER, DAY AND NIGHT.
THEN HE MAKES THIS STATEMENT ABOUT “STIRRING UP THE GIFT” THAT CAME FROM THE “LAYING ON” OF PAUL’S HANDS, WHICH MOST INTERPRET TO MEAN THE GIFT OF SPEAKING IN TONGUES, BUT IT COULD REFER TO THE GIFT OF HEALING OR ANY OTHER GIFT.
WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS THAT WE EACH HONOUR WHATEVER GIFT(S) WE’VE BEEN GIVEN BY USING THEM TO SERVE THE LORD, USING THOSE GIFTS, NOT ALLOWING THEM TO BE DORMANT, OR EVEN LOST.
