LUKE 2:29-31

29 “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace,

According to Your word;

30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation

31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,

WE LEARN SEVERAL PRINCIPLES FROM THIS SMALL SET OF PASSAGES.

EVIDENTLY, SIMEON WAS GIVEN TO KNOW THAT MESSIAH WOULD BE BORN IN HIS LIFE-TIME, AND THAT HE WAS GIVEN AN ASSIGNMENT TO PRAY THROUGH TO THIS END, THAT IS WHY HE SAID HE COULD NOW “DEPART IN PEACE.” THE PRINCIPLE TO BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THIS IS THAT OFTEN, BY GOD’S SOVEREIGN WILL, AN INDIVIDUAL IS GIVEN AN ASSIGNMENT TO “PRAY THROUGH” A PARTICULAR OCCURRENCE, EVENT, OR WHATEVER IT IS THAT GOD HAS PLANNED.

GOD DID, AND STILL DOES GIVE VISIONS, DREAMS, AND NOTIFY IN WHATEVER WAY HE CHOOSES TO WHOMEVER HE CHOOSES WHEN HE HAS WORK FOR ANY ONE TO DO THAT THEY MUST BE AWARE OF. GOD ALSO DISPENSED HIS HOLY SPIRIT TO PROMPT, LEAD AND DIRECT SIMEON, EVEN THEN, BEFORE THE OFFICIAL RELEASE OF HIS HOLY SPIRIT TO BE DWELLING IN HIS PEOPLE. THIS VERIFIES THE PRINCIPLE OF GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY. DON’T BE TOO QUICK TO SAY, “OH, GOD WOULDN’T . . …” FOR GOD MAY VERY WELL DO WHATEVER UNIQUE THING HE DECIDES TO DO. AS HE “WILLS” SO HE WILL DO. DO NOT PUT GOD IN “YOUR” BOX!

WHEN GOD GIVES SUCH A VISION OR DREAM IT IS PROPHETIC AND IT WILL BE AS HE HAS SAID. SIMEON WAS FAITHFUL TO PRAY THIS THROUGH; THUS HE COULD NOW DEPART IN PEACE. MAY WE EACH BE AS FAITHFUL AS SIMEON WAS IF WE ARE GIVEN SUCH AN ASSIGNMENT.

SIMEON WAS FAITHFUL AND THUS LIVED TO RECEIVE GOD’S PROMISE; AN IMPORTANT EXAMPLE, AND LESSON TO LEARN FROM.
