GOD’S WORD, A FIRE, 05.03.19
We can pray many different types of prayers; but praying God’s Word is by far, the single most effective, most powerful form of prayer we can implement. Praying God’s Word is the single most effective weapon against the Enemy. We will look, in the following paragraphs, for validation of this claim.
First and foremost, there is power in the Word of God: “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword—piercing right through to a separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Heb.4:12). There isn’t anything more powerful than God’s Word (after all, He spoke creation into being, didn’t He?); so when we use the Word/Sword He gave us, in prayer, there is a power released through those Words, because they are not just our words; they are His Words.
Jesus, Himself, Yeshua, instructs His disciples to speak to the mountains: “Amen, I tell you, if someone says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but trusts that what he says is happening, so shall it be for him. For this reason I say to you, whatever you pray and ask, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mk.11:23,24). This demonstrates a second point: that the Word, spoken in faith has unlimited power, and by speaking it, we are demonstrating our faith in God’s Word – i.e., we really expect what we pray, to happen. When we lay hold of God’s Word, the anointing is released.
So how do we “speak to the mountains”? Realize that the “mountains” represent whatever obstacles/blocks are in your way (to your faith, to whatever it is you are attempting to achieve, as long as it is within God’s will, of course); so you would address, for instance, “fear” (as a mountain in your life), take authority over it, by God’s Word, and command it to “Go!” Identify your specific mountains, be they fear, anxiety, infirmity, lust, greed, materialism, rage, grief, unforgiveness, or any other (please realize this is not a comprehensive list, only an example; your mountain can be anything), and address them with authority (Lk.10:19: “Behold, I have given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you”), and command them to “Go!” in Jesus/Yeshua’s Name. Of course, it is not in our own power; but by our identity in Christ Yeshua, and through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, that He has given us His authority, His power.
The third point is that when we pray God’s Word, we know we are praying according to God’s will. Why? Well, it’s HIS WORD, it’s what He wants us to believe in and live by, and have; it is that by which He will dispense His power. Through Jeremiah, the prophet (Jer.5:14), God declares: “Therefore thus says Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot: “Because you speak this word, behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire and this people wood—and it will devour them.” He is thereby directing Jeremiah to speak His Words, so that it will accomplish His purposes. Supplement this with Jer. 23:28,29: ““The prophet who has a dream may recount a dream,
but let the one who has My word speak My word in truth. For what is straw compared with wheat?” It is a declaration of Adonai. “Is not My word like fire?” says Adonai, “or like a hammer that shatters rock?”” Even in OT times they knew the power of God’s Word. Torah teachings are aligned with those of New Testament; there are no contradictions.
Paul taught us to wield “the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Eph.6:17), against the Enemy, and declare God’s Word over and into any situation we encounter: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you are able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist when the times are evil, and after you have done everything, to stand firm” (an “evil day” can be any day in which we, or our children/household, city, or country, are under siege by the Enemy), (Eph.6:11,13). Here we find total validation and confirmation for using God’s Word in prayer, as a weapon against the Devil. Use it!
We find, in these passages, validation of the three identified reasons for the power in praying God’s Word: (a) God is speaking, and indicating that His Word is powerful; He says it is “like a fire;” (b) He instructs His prophet to speak His Word in faith; we thereby demonstrate our faith in His Word when we speak it; and (c) when we do so, God’s power will be released through those words; so it is clearly His will for us to declare His Word for Him to release His power through that Word, spoken through His servants. He works through His servants and through the power of His Word to accomplish His purposes. And His Word is true; so His Word is His “will.”
Now take and apply these prayer principles personally. God’s Word is alive. It applies to us personally, as well as to families, institutions, nations. If you are uncertain how some of these “Words” apply to yourself, just look at the principle/promise in each of the passages and situations which they represent, replace the doer and the object of the action, as it would apply to you/your personal situation. Let’s take a simple one like Acts 11:14, “He will speak words to you by which you will be saved—you and all your household.’” – the principle, or promise is household salvation. So take that “Word” and declare it over your household. Now let’s go a little deeper and take Jer. 5:14. Although we, personally, are not going to send God’s fire against any person or people group, we certainly are called to put the fire of God against the “Enemy” (our Enemy is the Devil, Satan himself, the “accuser of the brethren,” Rev.12:10), and against any of his evil activities directed at ourselves, our family members, our city, province, or nation) with whatever area represents the threatening source (again, Satan, or his plans). The principle/promise here, is that God’s Word = FIRE POWER. A good example for any parents, for instance, would be to address any temptations presenting a threat to our children (not hard to find these days, unfortunately), and put the fire of God against that threat, in Jesus/Yeshua’s Name. You may avert, prevent, or terminate all manner of threats of the Enemy by using this powerful weapon which (in His Name, by HIS power) the Lord has given us.
Heb.12:29: “For our God is a consuming fire;” Ex.24:17, “The sight of the glory of the Lord was like a consuming fire;” Deut.4:24: “For the Lord your God is a consuming fire.” Once we understand this principle of using God’s Word in prayer and warfare, and that we can put the fire of God against the Enemy’s dirty works/plans/efforts/attempts, we can readily apply it to whatever threat we/our family are facing, declaring it from Jer.5:14 “Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: Because you (I) speak this word, Behold, I (You, Lord God) will make My (Your) words in your (my) mouth fire” and it will destroy the Enemy’s plans/dirty work. This is an example of wielding the Sword of the Spirit against the Enemy. If you have not learned to pray in this way before, I encourage you to practice doing so. You will experience a new level of power in your prayer life, you will walk in the authority Christ gave us, and you will experience victory in those areas of your life which you address.
