Do you want to receive God’s blessings? What believer in Yeshua would not want to receive God’s blessings?  So how do you qualify for God’s blessings? How do you attain God’s blessings?

He said, “If you diligently listen to the voice of Adonai your God, do what is right in His eyes, pay attention to His mitzvot, and keep all His decrees, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians. For I am Adonai who heals you” (Ex.15:26).

Notice the conditions for the promise of healing: (a) if you listen (b) do as He says, not as you wish; © keep all his laws/decrees (whatever He says).

These conditions are restated in Lev.25: “If you walk in My statutes, keep My mitzvot/laws and carry them out, then . . .” (v.3,4).  “Now if you listen obediently to the voice of Adonai your God, taking care to do all His mitzvot that I am commanding you today, Adonai your God will set you on high—above all the nations of the earth. Then all these blessings will come upon you and overtake you, if you listen to the voice of Adonai your God:”    (Deut.28:1,2), following which are a list of blessings.

“But if you will not listen to the voice of Adonai your God, to take care to do all His mitzvot and statutes that I am commanding you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you” (Deut. 28:15), followed by a list of curses. This should alert us to the fact that there can be generational curses which can intercept blessings, thereby stealing one’s peace, inner joy, complete freedom and victory that have the potential to be fully realized.

“For I, Adonai your God, am a jealous God, bringing the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me” (Ex.20:5), “showing mercy to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, yet by no means leaving the guilty unpunished, but bringing the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, to the third and fourth generation” (Ex.34:7). “Do not bow down to them or worship them. For I, Adonai your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and on the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me, but showing loving kindness to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My mitzvot” (Deut.5:9,10). Too many believers do not take curses seriously. There is considerable erroneous teaching that because Yeshua/Jesus did it all on the Cross, there are no curses remaining, regardless of how people live/have lived. This is simply not true. Freedom from all curses is POTENTIAL, just as is everything else. It hinges on your walk, the living out of what was accomplished on your behalf.

Generational curses may descend upon an individual due to ancestral sin. Such curses can, of course, be broken, by living a lifestyle of total surrender/obedience/holiness unto the Lord. Ancestral curses will likely require prayers of forgiveness, and repentance on behalf of the ancestors with whom they originated. Such were the prayers by Nehemiah and Daniel. Following are excerpts from those prayers which can be used as examples:

5 “Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love . . . .

6 please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, .. . . . confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You.

7 We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept . . . . .

9 but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, . . . .

11 O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name . . .  .”

Daniel 9:4-19

4 And I prayed to the Lord my God, and made confession, and said, “O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments,

5 we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled . . . .

6 Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets . . . . .

7 O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face  . . . . because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against You.

8 “O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.

9 To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.

10 We have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in . . . .

11 Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore the curse  . . . .

17 Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord’s sake cause Your face to shine . . . .

18 O my God, incline Your ear and hear . . . .  for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies.

19 O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act!  . . . .Your people are called by Your name.”

These prayers can be prayed by any of us who truly belong to Messiah, because we are grafted in. The principles provide a Scriptural model, either for oneself, or for intercession/standing in the gap for household/family, region, or nation. If you (or a family member or household) are in bondage to such generational curses, prayers such as these, and many others by Moses not quoted here, can be gainfully applied to assist in breaking generational curses.

Generational Curses are complex because they function in conjunction with any sin and demonic strongholds that may be operant in your life, and those doors which you yourself continue to open, whether by lifestyle, or generational behaviours which you have not confessed and are holding on to. These things will not only maintain curses, but perhaps supplement  them. I recommend a study of Derek Prince’s teachings on breaking curses. In addition to the teaching quoted here, please reference my youtube playlist ( ).

It is important to understand that often the ongoing death to self, surrender, and tearing down of strongholds, when it seems to be ineffective, will be due to the interference of generational curses. According to Prince, “A curse is like a long evil arm of the past; and every time you are about to enter the place you have been aiming for, something happens to interfere with it . . . it’s probably a curse; and if there’s a curse, there’s something that caused it; and until you trace the cause you cannot attain the cure” ( ). Generational curses will steal blessings.

“Like a fluttering sparrow or a flying swallow, so an undeserved curse does not land” (Prov.26:2). Until and unless you yourself put an end to the cycles/patterns/behaviours that give the Enemy the legal rights to maintain the curses, they will hinder answered prayer in this regard. Continuation of any behaviours, patterns, or cycles from your family of origin, which first set the stage for those curses, in addition to dysfunctional/harmful/self-destructive patterns whether devised by or entered into by yourself, will serve to maintain the curses (this includes any/all occultic/New Age practices, idolatry, and sexual deviations). Ongoing unrepentance and/or unforgiveness; the making of wrong agreements/covenants, pledges, vows, or oaths; the maintaining of ungodly soul ties – these will not only maintain, but add to the curses already in place.

In summary: (1) in order to qualify for God’s blessings, close, obedient relationship/walk with the Father/Yeshua/Holy Spirit is essential; (2) It is possible to qualify for, yet still not attain, or receive God’s blessings; (3) Generational curse will need to be dealt with/broken in order for full blessings of freedom and victorious living to be realized.
