AVOIDING THE SNARES OF DECEPTION, 28.02.19

There is only one way to avoid the snares of deception, and that is through knowing God’s Word. This needs to be first and foremost in the life of a believer for many reasons. Our relationship with our Lord and Saviour, God the Father, and Holy Spirit hinges on it. Our ability to avoid the traps and snares of the world, of every form of deception and heresy, is entirely reliant on our knowledge of God’s Word. Knowing who He is, how He works, what His Word says about how to live life, is the only way to avoid getting caught in the traps and snares of deception that will lead to confusion, false doctrine, and place us in danger of being led astray. Deception abounds throughout the believing community, even where the Word is taught; so we need to be in the Word ourselves, daily, seeking God’s discernment and wisdom.

There are many movements, trends, and special interest groups presenting themselves in positive ways, however not ordained/anointed by God. The Enemy is currently using these to take God’s people off the beaten path, the narrow way.  A primary example of such is the “Global Secular Humanist Movement,” driven by secular humanists, [Secular Humanism is a world view that posits that human beings are capable of being ethical and moral without religion or a God] on the basis of taking up world causes, such as saving the environment, which many Christians are getting caught up in. The idea of doing good catches them up in the tide; however, “Satan presents himself as an angel of light” (2 Cor.11:14), and “what fellowship does light have with darkness?” (2 Cor. 6:14). Yeshua warned: “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many. How narrow is the gate and difficult the way that leads to life, and those who find it are few” (Matt.7:13,14).  The Global Secular Humanist Movement is entirely inclusive, while Yeshua’s Way is entirely exclusive. The two are entirely oppositional approaches.

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? What harmony does Messiah have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement does God’s Temple have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God—just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore, come out from among them, and be separate, says Adonai. Touch no unclean thing. Then I will take you in” (2 Corinthians 6:14-17). God’s Word must be our foundation, and guide. Let us apply it, and walk in the Truth. Yeshua clarified: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

We have been warned in various places throughout Scripture that there will be false prophets, people getting pulled away from the Truth, and a falling away:

1 Tim.4:1,2

1Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron.

2 Tim.3:13

13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

2 Tim.4:3,4

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;

4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Matt. 24:10-12

10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.

12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

We need to be discerning as to the source and motivation of so-called “good deeds.” Scripture clearly cautions us that “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your …I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness” (Matt.7:21-23); and those “works” will not count. Paul explains that anything not having been done in Christ’s Name, from a right heart, when we stand before God in judgment, will be for naught: each one’s work will become clear. For the Day will show it, because it is to be revealed by fire; and the fire itself will test each one’s work—what sort it is. If anyone’s work built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss—he himself will be saved, but as through fire”(I Cor.3:13-15). God’s Word is “like a fire” (Jer.23:29) and anything not having been done for Him, in His Name, and to His Glory, will be devoured by His fire. “Do not be deceived—God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also shall reap” (Gal.6:7).

Since we are God’s people, His servants, as well as His sons/daughters, we are to do everything “as to the Lord” (Col.3:23; Eph.6:7), not for ourselves or for the approval and acclaim of the world. “Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Ruach ha-Kodesh (Holy Spirit) who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?  For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body”(I Cor.6:19,20). When we become believers, followers of Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, we are giving up the right to serve other gods, and committing to serve Him only. We are no longer our own. We must do things God’s way, not by the dictates of man; and we are to do ALL  things to His glory, not for the glory of self/man/others, which is essentially what Secular Humanists do (they want to be seen for their good deeds; they are not crediting God for anything). It is to this end that we are not free to join forces with worldly movements; they are not in service of God Almighty. They are not going to be giving Him the glory. New Age, Secular Humanist, Global Movements take various and assorted forms; however, all are self-elevating, self-glorifying, and seeing little need for “God” as believers understand Him. If they do believe in a “god” it is usually a “god” of their own design, bearing no resemblance to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the One and only true God.

So we must beware, before taking up the cause that appears good, well-intended, on the outside, but is really self-serving from within. We must ask ourselves: Is God in this thing? Is He receiving the Glory? Does it point people to the Father? If the answer is “No,” we need to separate ourselves from it. To be a partner with such a movement, is to be yoked with the Enemy. We cannot serve two masters simultaneously (Matt.6:24). And then many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one other. Many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. Because lawlessness will multiply, the love of many will grow cold” (Matt.24:10-12). Let none of us fall into such deception.
