PRAYER GUIDE, “GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY,” 10.01.19
Make us to get it into our heads, and hearts that You, and You alone, are the “GREAT I AM,” (Ex.3:14); no one else can claim this; and forgive those of us who have sported a God-Complex, thinking we know better than You do, “For Your thoughts are not our thoughts, nor are our ways Your ways . . . as the heavens are higher than earth, so are Your ways higher than our ways, and Your thoughts than our thoughts” (Isa.55:8,9). Let us get back into our place of submission, yieldedness, and surrender. Let us “Humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, so You can lift us up” (James 4:10).
Your Word makes it crystal clear that we need to hold You in High Esteem, to reverence You as no other, for You set the record straight when You admonished Job, even after all his sufferings, with: “Who is this, who darkens counsel with words without knowledge? Now gird up your loins like a man; I will question you, and you will inform Me! “Where were you when I laid the foundations of earth?” (Job 38:2-4). Forgive us for demanding answers; forgive us for thinking we have a right to make any demands of any kind. May we be ever grateful that You, by Your sovereign will, chose each one of us, (Amos 3:2; Eph.1:4; John 15:16); and it was not because any individual of us was special, superior, perfect, (Deut.9:6) or better than anyone else; it was simply a function of Your sovereign will. Just as You chose Israel when You selected Abraham, so You have chosen each individual. Truly, Your Ways are not our ways. Enable us to accept what we can’t understand.
Train us up to prepare for, and accept the seasons we are in, whether they are seasons of isolation, discipline, pruning, accelerated growth, or blessings (Ezek.34:26). Thank-You, that ”we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose . . . those whom He foreknew He also predestined . . . those whom He predestined” (Rom.8:28,29); and that assures us that every storm has a purpose (Isa.45:6,7; 14:24; 46:9-11). All adversity, suffering, and pain of whatever form, for whatever duration, brings us to a higher level of closeness, trust, and develops and matures us in some area of our lives. We thank You that there are no coincidences, and all things are purposeful (nothing is for nothing). Give us surrendered hearts that can praise You, as Job did, when You give, and when You take away (Job 1:21).
May “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt.6:10), in each of our lives, as well as on the earth, as a whole. Holy Spirit, teach, and lead us submit to God’s sovereignty and allow Him to have His Way in our lives, so we will have complete Shalom, and walk in freedom and victory. Bring us to that place where we can surrender each and every single thought, desire, emotion, action, interaction, inaction, and decision to You, Lord, accepting Your sovereignty in our own lives as well as in the world around us. In Jesus/Yeshua’s Name we pray. Amen.
