PRAYER GUIDE, “WHAT ABOUT “MARTYRDOM?” 27.11.18
Father, I have answered the call to “Follow Me!””(John 21:18,19); but rarely, if ever, have I actually thought about the fact that this call can include martyrdom.
But You have warned us, by the Words of Jesus/Yeshua that in the last days, and during the tribulation “they will hand you over to persecution and will kill you. You will be hated by all the nations because of My name” (Matt.24:9). Rev.12:11 clearly indicates that we are to overcome, not only by Your precious blood that was shed for us, and not only by the “word of our testimony,” but also by “not loving our lives to the death,” so I know I need to gear up for this. I need to get ready. There is no option for hanging onto our lives on this earth, while giving up our faith and trust in You. I want to be so sold out to You, that I would be able to arise to such a call.
Grant me the anointing, just as for Your disciples, and as Paul, when he said that followers of Jesus/Yeshua should be “rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name”(Acts 5:41). I so surrender all to You, Lord Jesus/Yeshua, that my priority will be to serve You, whether it means death, or otherwise, for I can be “confident and know that while I am at home in the body, I am absent from the Lord . . . . . . So whether at home or absent, my aim is to be pleasing to You” (2 Cor.5:6-9), for “You died for all so that those who live might no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for us and was raised from the dead” (2 Cor.5:15). I want to be so sold out to You that I can walk in surrender even as Paul and modern day martyrs like Bonhoeffer, and the Groenewald family
Prepare my heart for these last days, as persecution continues to intensify, and the time of tribulation draws near, to be able to withstand every form of temptation and testing I may need to endure, even to the threat of death: “I saw under the altar the souls of those slaughtered for the sake of the word of God and for the witness they had” (Rev.6:9), for I know these things will occur. Make me to overcome all fear of pain and torture I may need to endure; it’s not death I fear, it’s the possible torture that bothers me. But I believe You will even take that pain away if I am obedient and faithful to whatever You call me to. I won’t even feel whatever is done to me. You will carry me through by Your loving and protective arms.
Your Word tells us that we must be prepared for such inevitability/possibility, when John sees “the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Yeshua and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image, nor had they received his mark on their forehead or on their hand. And they came to life and reigned with the Messiah for a thousand years” (Rev.20:4). I must be one of these overcomers who does not deny You even in the face of being beheaded. Make provision for Your servant, oh Lord, I pray, in Jesus/Yeshua’s Name. Amen.
